Some of my interests are 3D printing, photography, and technological gadgetry.

3D Printing

Very Customizable Fidget Spinner on Thingiverse

I got my first 3D printer, a Printrbot Simple Maker’s 1405 Kit, in 2014. I have since obtained a Cetus 3D by Tiertime, and an Anycubic i3 Mega.

The Printrbot kit came with hundreds of pieces (and countless zip-ties)  and took several hours to assemble. One nice feature is the auto-leveling done with an induction proximity sensor.

The Cetus came in 3 pieces (extruder assembly, print bed, and everything else) and took minutes to assemble. Nice features include Wi-Fi, its compactness, a linear rail (aluminum extrusion) for each axis, a coated print bed, and the easy to use software.

The Anycubic came in 2 pieces (frame/gantry and print bed/chassis) and took minutes to assemble. It’s the only one with a heated bed and an LCD display. Nice features include a touch screen, all metal construction, and the Ultrabase perforated glass print bed. I did a full review of the Anycubic i3 Mega.

I do 3D design with OpenSCAD text-based software. I use Slic3r (slicer) and Repetier Host (control) software with the Printrbot, Cetus (slicer and control) and Cura (slicer) software with the Cetus, and Cura (slicer) software and Anycubic firmware (control) for the Anycubic i3 Mega. I share some of my designs on Thingiverse.

Photography

My main camera is a Canon 60D digital SLR. I have a collection of useful prime (35mm f2, 50mm f1.8, 90mm f2.8 macro, 100mm f2, 400mm f5.6) and zoom (17-35, 28-105, 70-200, 100-300) lenses. I bought almost all of this used, including the camera body.

I also have a Polaroid Cube+ action cam and a Nikon point and shoot digicam.

I prefer nature photography, and my favorite subjects are birds and macro flowers and insects. I post-process with Photoshop.

Technological Gadgetry

Particle Photon with OLED display and temperature sensor in 3D printed enclosure

I make things with microcontroller systems, such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and Particle Photon.
