I couldn’t resist placing an order for a WyzeCam, a 1080p smart home (indoor only) camera. The things that appealed to me were:
- the low price ($19.99)
- the high resolution (1080p)
- the smartphone app
- the free 14 day cloud storage (AWS –Amazon Web Services)
- the low light capability
- alerts triggered by sound and motion detectors
- microSD loop recording
- live streaming
- two-way audio
I could possibly use it to monitor my front porch to make sure there aren’t any pilfering porch pirates.
Besides home security, I could imagine using it to monitor 3D prints, my record longest taking 24 hours. I could check on a print when I’m at a different part of the house, or even away from home. At $19.99, it’s cheaper than a AstroPrint or OctoPrint setup ( Raspberry Pi: $35, camera: $28, power brick $10, microSD: $7), if you just want the monitoring capability, and not the control capability.
